An internationally acclaimed American photographer and long-time photojournalist. From 1994 until 1998, he was LIFE magazine's staff photographer, the first one in 23 years. His most well known series is the "Faces of Ground Zero" Giant Polaroid Collection, a collection of 246 giant Polaroid portraits shot in the Moby c Studio near Ground Zero in a three-week period shortly after 9/11. A large group of these historic, compelling life-size (9x4") photos were exhibited in seven cities in 2002, seen by almost a million people. The sale of 55,000 copies of the exhibit book, printed by LIFE, raised over $2 million for the 9/11 relief effort. This collection is considered by many museum and art professionals to be the most significant artistic endeavor to evolve to date from the 9/11 tragedy.

McNally is known worldwide for his ability to produce technically and logistically complex assignments with expert use of color and light. He conducts numerous workshops around the world as part of his teaching activities, and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Alfred Eisenstadt Award for outstanding magazine photography, as well as Pictures of the Year International, and World Press Photo Foundation Award (awarded first place in Portraits in 1997). Most recently, McNally has been selected as one of 10 photographers worldwide to work on promotion of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

WARPHOTOGRAPHER. Dokumenter ini menggmbarkan kehidupan seorang Fotografer Perang bernama James Nachtwey. Beliau adalah fotografer kelas dunia yang sudah meliput perang sejak Perang di Irlandia Utara, Perang Iraq sampai Perang Balkan. Selain itu beliau juga meliput tentang kelaparan di Afrika dan kemiskinan di Indonesia.

Film dokumenter ini diawali dengan quote Robert Capa seorang fotografer perang yang meliput Perang Dunia II “If you picture aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough”. Sebuah quote yang menujukan bahwa untuk menjadi seorang yang meliput perang maka harus punya nyali untuk membuat hal itu menjadi “berbicara”, menjadi penyambung cerita mereka yang menghadapi perang. Dan ternyata membuat sebuah foto bicara banyak tentang perang itu tidak mudah.

Selain Nachtwey, ada juga wawancara dengan Christine Amanpour seorang jurnalis senior CNN. Disini terlihat bagaimana Amanpour yang sudah sekian lama terjuan meliput perang pun sampai saat ini masih tidak percaya bahwa manusia bisa begitu sangat kejam dengan sesamanya di dalam perang. Ini terlihat ketika dia meliput korban Cleaning Etnic di Bosnia.

Yang paling menarik adalah ketika Nachtwey bercerita tentang pengalamannya meliput Perang di Rwanda. Baginya Perang Rwanda adalah perang paling brutal yang pernah diliput olehnya. Dalam perang ini suku Hutu melakukan” pembersihan” suku Tutsi, dimana pembersihan itu bukan hanya dilakukan di tempat khusus tapi juga di jalan-jalan dan rumah ibadat, gilanya lagi mayat-mayat korban dibiarkan di tempat tersebut sampai menjadi tengkorak. Alat pembunuhannya juga termasuk menyeramkan, dengan menggunakan parang.

Tak lama setelah itu suku Hutu harus terusir dari Rwanda, sebagian dari mereka terpaksa mengungsi ke Zaire. di tempat pengungsian, mereka terkena wabah kolera. Sehingga hampir sebagian besar pengungsi meninggal dunia. Saking banyaknya yang meninggal, sampai-sampai pihak berwenang harus menggunakan traktor untuk memindahkan mayat-mayat tersebut. Menurut Nachtwey, beliau tahu bahwa dari wajah-wajah yang di foto olehnya pasti ada yang melakukan pembunuhan massal kepada suku Tutsi, jadi ini seperti menaiki express elevator to hell bagi mereka.

Selain perang Nachtwey juga meliput tentang Gerakan Reformasi 1998 di Jakarta. Bagaiman beliau menjadi saksi mata melalui lensa kameranya kekejaman pihak Kepolisian, kerusuhan Mei 1998 sampai detik-detik menjelang jatuhnya Rezim Soeharto. Disini juga Nachtwey mengalami peperangan batin dimana dia meliput sekelompok orang mengeroyok seoarang pria sampai hampir saja digorok, akhirnya beliau memohon kepada pengeroyok agar melepaskan pri tersebut.

Setelah Reformasi, Nachtwey kembali meliput Jakarta. Beliau memilih memotret kemiskinan. Menurut beliau, Indonesia selalu menyatakan peniningkatan perkembangan ekonomi mereka tetapi hal itu hanya dirasakan sebagian kecil masyarakat Indonesia sedangkan masyarakat miskin tidak pernah merasakannya.

Disini Nachtwey meliput para pemulung di sebuah TPA (gilanya tanpa penutup hidung), dia berbaur dengan para pemulung berkenalan dengan mereka dan ikut dikejar-kejar buldozer. Lalu dia meliput satu keluarga pengemis yang tinggal di antara dua rel kereta api dan kepala leluarganya hanya mempunyai satu tangan dan satu kaki. Lalu setelah itu beliau meliput ke Kawah Ijen, menemui para penambang belerang disana.
